ITT Systems Communications Systems Group (CSG) was faced with the challenge of finding a server capable of handling the mobile version of the military’s Global Broadcast Service (GBS). The GBS application consists of collecting video, audio and computer data information from military TV broadcast stations and transmitting the information to reporters at the scene. This required a server that was small and light.

ITT Systems purchased Crystal’s CS900 servers along with Crystal’s VKMS (Video, Keyboard & Mouse Switch) and keyboard drawer assembly for use in this application. Taking advantage of Crystal’s complete design engineering services, ITT had Crystal completely redesign their KVM assembly to suit their needs. The Crystal servers are used in mobile vehicles to set up the two networks gathering the various types of information and then to transmit the information to TV broadcast equipment.

ITT was particularly impressed with Crystal's size and weight. "The mobile version of the GBS project had specific limitations as to size and weight. We were faced with trying to get ten pounds of stuff into a five pound bag. Crystal's systems solved this problem and we even had space left over. An added bonus was the quick connect feature. This allowed the users and maintainers to replace equipment within seconds versus hours," says Joe Beaudoin of ITT Systems.
